Great features and photo quality, May 21, 2012

    (REAL NAME)

I bought this camera for its portability, because I so often failed to have a camera with me when a great shot presented itself. I wasn’t expecting too much, but was really surprised.

The image quality is nothing short of amazing. The lens seems to have few aberrations anywhere in its very wide zoom range. I don’t use the longer focal lengths much but really appreciate that it has the equivalent of 24 mm at the wide-angle end.

This spring has been good for wildflowers here in the desert. I have taken many shots of plants for identification as well as working with flower macros, trying to achieve some “artsy” shots. I’m very happy with the results.

I’ve also done some videos, notably one of ants being very busy. Looks great on the big screen at 1080p, even though the camera only takes 720.

Of the multitudes of features, the best is wi-fi connectivity. Whenever the computer is on I can let it update the files on the PC. It makes folders for each day automatically and remembers what has already been saved. Works up to hundreds of feet from the router.

It has a “smart” mode which makes all the decisions for you, a “program” mode with more control, and fully manual. The manual mode shows a histogram on screen, so you don’t have to guess.

Some nitpicking: The screen looks great in anything but direct sunlight; working outdoors can be difficult sometimes. While most images are nearly free of noise, noticeable noise appears in some, inexplicably. Sometimes autofocus isn’t quite accurate. Given the price, feature set, and extreme portability of the camera, I can live with those little details.

    IMPRESSED, July 6, 2012
    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
    Update (October 2012):

There are a few reviews on this camera from people who did not delve into the complex settings of the device you are looking at. Their reviews unfortunately dragged down the star ratings to an unrealistic rating. This camera is great! Image quality is great! However, I have not used the automatic mode very much. You will get amazing quality pictures when you spend time on your shots. There are simple settings like ISO (light sensitivity), aperture, and shutter speed. Toggling these settings will create awesome pictures worthy of your family album, Facebook profile, and personal website.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I wanted a great camera to capture the beautiful landscapes of my life in the Midwest. However, I did not want a big fat DSLR-style camera or a compact camera with 5x zoom. And why not spring for the attractive white version?

Prime shipping is awesome. I received this in less than 24 hours.

Like I did, you may be reading critic and user reviews on various models and you’ll be dazzled with each different variation on the same technology. This is an ultra-zoom compact camera which combines automated settings with the ability to vary settings manually, just as the pros do! The critics will say this or that about a camera, but they seem to me to always recommend the newest 0 model.

This camera has an 18x zoom which can be used for both photos and videos. It has a 3-inch LCD screen and a dedicated video record button.
You can actually edit photos during and after taking them, with different effects and scenes that may remind you of Instagram on your smartphone.

Speaking of smartphones, THIS CAMERA HAS WIFI! So yeah, you can send photos and videos to Facebook, email, Picasa, Youtube, Photobucket, and Microsoft SkyDrive. Even better, with an Android or iPhone, you can use two apps that will interface with this camera: Mobile Link and Remote Viewfinder.

Suppose you’re taking a group photo, but you want to be in it! You can zoom, change basic settings, and snap the photo from your PHONE with Remote Viewfinder.
Perhaps you want to transfer content from the camera to your phone: Use Mobile Link. In both cases, the Samsung WB150F creates its own wireless access point which pairs with your phone.

The above features may work best with Samsung phones, however my HTC Droid Incredible worked perfectly for this! You won’t regret your purchase!

    Gadgetry Galore!, June 6, 2012
I based my purchase mainly on the WI-FI, 18x ZOOM, and compatibility of my Samsung Galaxy phone. First of all flash your camera to the latest firmware (May,2012). Install the CD on your computer and there’s pull-down for firmware upgrade, follow instructions, if you get lost, there’s a blurb on YouTube on how to flash your camera. Connect your camera to a wifi access point then begin uploading to SkyDrive, Picasa, FB. Post directly to FB. You’ll need to create an account on SkyDrive to upload to the Cloud. I use DropBox I can appreciate saving to the cloud. Enable your phone to “hotspot” then use your phone to connect to the Web. I’m an avoid DSLR user so I wanted something that can be used traveling rather than carrying a gigantic DSLR. The HD video is 720p and it’s fine for my needs. It’s a lot more stable than my JVC 3CCD HD 1080p, video is very stable. Reviews say the color is most accurate and it’s true, very vivid images. You may want to mess with the general settings of contrast, brightness and color density to get it just right. I TOTALLY recommend the Samsung WB150! I’ll post more as I begin getting into the guts of this camera.

UPDATE: 8/17/2012: It’s been 2.5 months and a 10 day vacation in the Caribbean. Took over 2500 pics. I still think it’s a good camera, but it’s not without it’s faults. After a few shots, my WB150 froze up and the only way to fix this to pull the battery. I purchased 2 after-market batteries (non-Samsung) and it seemed to be OK, but I’m suspecting the 3rd party battery might be causing the freezing. The copying from camera to smartphone had gotten real slow. I assume it might be due to the amount of data on the 32GB drive. When you sync up to your smartphone, also Samusung Galaxy S, it’s gotten a lot longer wait times for the pictures populate on the phone. I tried a smaller SD card (16GB) with less stuff and it seemed to fix the slowness issue. Kinda makes sense. More pics it’s gotta read, the longer the read times. Oh, if you have a new SD card, be sure to format the card on the camera, otherwise, it’s going to be slow times powering up your WB150. We did get to upload pics from the WB150 to the smartphone and post to Facebook. That was one of biggest reasons I got the camera to begin with. The only way to enable the flash (fill-in) is “P” mode. Smart mode will determine if you need flash or not. Smart wasn’t a bad way to go if you’re outside. But in you’re in the tour bus, disabling the flash is key. Let the camera figure out the rest. I admit I did not use my old DSLR (Olympus E-1) at all and kept using the WB150. I like the Red video button. It’s not to hit the video button while shooting stills. There’s a dedicated video setting on the dial as well. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Excellent cable for the price, January 1, 2011
    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: AmazonBasics High-Speed Hdmi Cable, 6.5-Feet (Electronics)
Before I purchased this HDMI cable for my Roku XDS I shopped around first at nearby Walmart and Best Buy, and read some reviews for this product. I’m a retired electrical engineer and do not believe on going overboard, spending more than adequate to get a good result on audio and video component. There are cables in the market that are priced too high to get the money out of those people who are willing to pay the price. Those people always believed that if the price is high, the product must be very good. For digital signal transmission, this HDMI cable is more than adequate. My video and audio were not degraded, and I did not notice any lost of clarity either on video or audio signal.

Just as good as any HDMI cable but cheaper. And you get two!, August 9, 2012
    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
There is a great myth about it being necessary to buy 0+ hdmi cables. The expensive ones are supposedly better quality and have better jacketing. The truth is that hi-speed hdmi cables with ethernet are exactly the same. Sure, the expensive cables may have better materials and better quality control, and they may have better jackets. However, AmazonBasics has not let me down! Their hdmi cables are as good as my MonsterCables which costed me when I first bought my 1080p/240hz lcd screen. I bought an AmazonBasics cable when I bought another flat screen and had no issues with the picture quality or refresh rate. I played on my PS3 and watched bluray videos just fine. And, the jacketing on that first pair of AmazonBasics hmdi cable I bought was ten times better and only cost me . Unless you’re a videophile who owns a ,000+ flat screen and have the most expensive equipment that money can buy, then you would probably be happier with a really expensive cable, although, it would just be as overpriced as all the other stuff you have purchased in the past. AmazonBasics is the way to go for cables!

    Quality & quantity, July 26, 2012
    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
Bought these for less clutter and to connect my laptop.
I was looking up HDMI cables before I made my purchase and all the no-bullshit tech guys said, “You shouldn’t pay more than ten dollars for an HDMI cable.”
2-6-foot and a half cables, gold-plated connecters, that aren’t bulky at the end, for 10 bucks (15 bucks with shipping).
They both work well, picture is clear and the audio is enhanced when using these cables.
Other than my laptop not adjusting to the right size on the T.V., but that’s because the laptop, everything was great.

I also like the little detail with the color coding. By this I mean that the cables themselves, on the connection ends, come colored, one green and one blue, very nice touch and convenient.

This was also my first purchase from Amazon, It went very well and I will be making future purchases.

Just opening the box is a joy, making this a great gift. Instead of the usual plastic and white or brown packing, all is in a beautifully designed chic black, with every item showcased to perfection.
Easy set up, right out of the box. I bought the Samsung Galaxy Camera with Android Jelly Bean v4.2 OS, 16.3MP CMOS with 21x Optical Zoom and 4.8″ Touch Screen LCD (WiFi – White)a few months ago (also a great camera if you don’t want to mess with a cell service for your camera) so it took no time at all, but even if you’re an android newbie, it’s still simple and straightforward. The Samsung website has some terrific videos showing various features. After an initial get-to-know-ya with this camera, check out more cool things you can do. Also, I myself find it helpful in the beginning to download the PDF of the manual and print off parts I want. The whole manual is over 200 pages, so I just print off what I need.

And even if you’re relatively new to photography you’ll feel like a pro with an easy to change lens. And about the lens, WOW! Looking at this camera? Get the model that includes the lens! More about the lens later…I could not be more excited!

The Optical Image Stabilizer in the 18-55mm lens offers clear, sharp images. The NX System lens incorporates i-Function Technology which lets you control the camera from the lens itself. It provides one step control of the shutter speed.
The AF (Auto Focus) is fast at 0.17 (!!!) seconds so it easily catches up to your next shot.
Recently, I was photographing an awards ceremony. The ‘money shot’, of course, was the transfer of the award. My darn camera took so long to autofocus from the previous shot, I missed it. Got a second before, a second after. That will never happen again.
And this is really cool…put the viewfinder up to your eye, and the touchscreen is disabled so your face isn’t interfere with the screen icons.

The GPS tracker enables photographers to capture their exact geographical location in real time.

I’m already picking out the goodies to add to this camera. Samsung has a 10mm Fisheye lens, a 20mm pancake lens for taking great landscapes and an 18-200mm zoom…jeez, too many to mention that can be purchased separately. There are a lot of NX cases on eBay, if you want the ‘real’ one, when I looked, it was cheaper via Amazon versus the Samsung website.
You can also get external flash, remote switch, microphone.

This is THE camera, and the future of all cameras. It’s easy enough for a budding photographer, slick enough for the pro.

Any other questions or anything you WISH this review had, just click the ‘comment’ button below and I’ll do whatever I can to help, be it a video, research, whatever. I love it and am happy to share whatever I can so that you can decide if it’s right for you.

UPDATE EDIT 3/4/14: The features and options never seem to end on this camera! It can get complicated, but thankfully Samsung has a dedicated support line for it. I’ve called twice with questions, never had to wait too long. Because this product is so new, if they don’t know what youre talking about, ask to be switched to ‘professional camera equipment’ NOT ‘digital camera’.
I feel like there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers, so I admit I asked some stupid questions. They were explained with enough information that I could look up and research the rest.
Since I am NOT a lifelong camera person, some features that would be 101 to others were new to me. And I’m so glad I had the Galaxy with Android Jelly Bean v4.2 OS, 16.3MP first.
The more I peek into what it can do, the more excited I am. One thing I should clarify about my review…I say it is fine for a budding photographer, and it is, but if you just want something to take photos or movies that is point and shoot, you won’t be taking advantage of it’s full potential. This is a camera for geeks and tech junkies! If you are a newbie, but have the DESIRE, this can be a first pro camera.
There is nothing else like this out there right now.

Someone asked about a ‘zoom button’. Like any professional camera, you zoom with the lens, you WANT to zoom with the lens. Part of what is cutting edge about this camera is the way the lens ‘talks’ to the camera. The information about the functionality of the lens is sent to the body of the camera, so that any options that you have to control the lens shows up on the screen. Each additional lens you may choose to add has different functionality…screen options CHANGE with each lens because the camera KNOWS which lens is on. This is HUGE!
NEVER has this been done before, and I believe it will change the art of photography.

I have both the Samsung NX2000 and NX300 compact system cameras which are great products for photo shooting with wireless photos sharing capabilities. The Samsung Galaxy NX Smart 4G Camera is another great innovation which includes all the nice features of the NX2000 / NX300 cameras plus quite a bit more. I would share the features I like about this Samsung Galaxy NX camera and include some comparison with the NX300 in this review.

What I like about this product

    - the camera comes with the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS with full featured Android functionality. We can use the camera like an Android tablet for surfing the net / social media, sending / watching photo / videos, and checking emails. It has a large vivid 4.8" 1280 x720 resolution display with touch screen controls for all the camera functions. This is about 50% larger in size as compared to the 3.3" display for the NX300 camera. It also comes with an electronic view finder with a SVGA (800 x 600) resolution. The Samsung Galaxy NX does not have a flip-out screen like the NX300 which I found quite convenient for viewing videos and taking pictures at lower levels.

    - The camera has a built in 16 GB memory (about 13 GB are usable). It has a Micro SD card slot which supports SDHC (32GB) and SDXC (64GB) cards. It also comes with a SIM card slot for mobile phone providers.

    - The camera has nice picture quality with a 20.3 MP APS CMOS sensor. It supports upto 25600 ISO and a shutter speed of 1/6000 sec. These are the same as the NX300 camera. The camera comes with a built-in flash with a hot-shot for external flash.

The 15 – 55 mm lens works well for many photo-shooting situations with a phase-detection focusing system which provides better and faster focusing. The lens also comes with the OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) function which is helpful for shooting fast moving objects. The lens’s thread diameter is 58 mm in case if you want to purchase filters for it. This package also comes with a lens hood.
    .
    - Very easy to navigate the camera modes and functions using the on-screen dial functions. There are also a variety of controls for the more advanced photographers. Some of the features I like included the focusing / exposure / metering modes, bracketing by exposure / white balance, and manual adjustment of the flash’s power. The camera also comes with a neat feature called "beauty face" which automatically smoothen the skin tones either in real time or applied after the picture is taken. It also allow the taking of photos and video using voice commands

    - wireless Wi-Fi capability. This is a function which I like very much. The camera supports Wifi, DLNA networking, bluetooth, and has a built in GPF.
It works flawlessly for sharing the pictures with the various wireless options. The Samsung smart App also has a remote view-finder function which allows us to remotely control the camera using our smart phones.

Overall, I am very pleased with this camera with its nice picture quality, compact design with interchangeable lens , and the wireless sharing capability. It also works like an Android tablet device with a nice screen size and display.

Game Changer – YES, but needs some refinement., January 13, 2015
This review is from: Samsung Galaxy NX EK-GN120ZKAXAR Galaxy Wireless Smart Android 4G Camera 20.3MP Compact System Camera with 4.8-Inch LCD with 18-55mm OIS Lens (Black) (Electronics)

Game Changer – YES, but needs some refinement.

    Overall:
This camera is a game changer in the convenience of modern home photography NOT in photo quality (the photo quality is not bad it’s on-par with other APS-C sized cameras.) To explain it’s what you can do once the picture is taken that makes it a game changer. And since you can add apps, and new Android Apps are being created and improved, so is what you can do with your camera.

HERE IS WHAT THIS CAMERA CAN DO THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM ALMOST ANY OTHER CAMERA.
    1. I can post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and all other social media sites immediately, without transferring the photo’s off my camera (since the camera IS also a tablet) – Since you can simply install the app on the camera.
    2. The options you have to back up your photos go WAY beyond any other camera I know of since you can use ANY Android compatible app to back up your photos. I use Amazon Cloud Drive (I am an Amazon Prime Member) app which I installed on the Camera to automatically back up all photos from the Camera to my Amazon Photos account. I also do this from my iPhone, and my wife’s iPhone. Simultaneously this makes any photo I’ve taken with any camera in out house instantly available on my Phone, my wife’s phone, any computer, my work computer, my iPad…you get the picture (excuse the pun). Literally it’s an unlimited dropbox for photo’s that every photo we take goes into, and I can access it from everywhere…nice.
    3. There are also many other automatic backup apps for Android if you are not an Amazon Prime member.
    4. There is a plethora of things you can do with Android apps that I don’t even know about – but if you can download the app, you can do it.
    5. It can use a SIM card – I don’t use this, but you might like it, if you don’t mind paying an extra on your cell phone bill every month – but this would give your camera LTE connectivity virtually anywhere. Conversely, if you don’t need this or don’t want it also works just fine without it, my camera will simply wait until I’m connected to WiFi to sync with Amazon Photo’s etc. If I really, really want to share a picture now, I can turn on my phone hotspot and connect my camera also.

This stuff may not seem like a big deal to some, but for me it is HUGE. I’m a father of 3 kids and I want a good quality camera to capture these memories that will only happen once, and I also want to be able to easily share them with my parents, friends, etc. I realized some time ago that I was no longer using my SLR for hardly any picture taking anymore since there was simply too much lag time from when I would take a picture until when I would share it. It was silly that I was choosing to use an inferior camera on my phone to record events over a much better SLR simply because I could share them easier. Now with this camera I don’t have to choose between sharing convenience and photo quality, I get both!

    PROS:
    1. Android operating system = Hundreds of thousands of apps that may be useful to sharing/backing up your photos.
    2. Wifi Connectivity for quick and free sync and backup of your photos.
    3. LTE connectivity capable – if you want it and don’t mind paying for it – but not needed for a great user experience.
    4. The lens focusing motor is very quite – I have not noticed any noise on my photos from the lens focus motor – so you can realistically use this as a video camera.

CONS: (This is why I gave it only 4-stars)
    1. The Camera takes a long time to turn on if it hasn’t been on in the last 24 hours – causing you to miss cute photo’s of your kids. (This MUST be fixed in the next iteration of this camera). It does have a "quick on" feature that keeps the camera in standby mode for up to 24 hours, this is fine. In quick standby mode it only takes a couple seconds to turn on, (probably fine most of the time), but if the Camera has fully shut down it takes a good 20-30 second to start up.
    2. The lens seems to hunt for the proper focus when being used in video mode – ESPECIALLY in low light. This really become annoying when you are shooting video and it is constantly going out of focus before coming back in focus. (Probably 4-5 times a minute in low light) – considering how much Samsung advertised the advance auto-focus system in this camera – I have to say I’m really disappointed in the autofocus.
    3. Maybe I’m just a spoiled iPhone user – but the touch screen for such an expensive camera doesn’t seem very responsive. It really seems like a n Android from say 3-4 years ago, for the response time. When I purchased the camera I though maybe it would convince me to become an Android user, but just the opposite has happened. My iPhone seems much, much more refined and touch sensitive. Not sure if this is the Camera hardware or the Android operating system.
    4. The Price is too high for what it is…

Does not support DLNA, August 29, 2014
Fine TV for just watching broadcast, but be careful with this TV if you are looking for a SmartTV because you want to use any of the apps or dLNA features features. After not being able to stream anything off the local network I spoke with a Samsung rep who explained the following….

Models H6201, H6203 (this model), H5201 and H5203 TVs does not support Allshare (Samsung link). These models were released late with limited features. These models (H6201, H6203, H5201 and H5203) do not have a processor as well and do not support Smart View 2.0

Allshare is available with models H5500, H6300, H6350, H6400, etc they have a quad core processor and supports Smart View 2.0

Great TV for the Price you pay, July 14, 2014
It’s a very good TV for the price.

    pro’s
    1. Picture Quality is great.
    2. Can be controlled with your iphone and tablet.
    3. Sound quality is amazing
    4. Value for the price of this size TV

    Con’s
    1. Apps are slow while using Smart TV which I don’t care as I use Roku most of the time.
    2. Only 2 HDMI which is ok for me as I use receivers to connect all my multi media.
    3. Accessing settings on TV is very very slow while using SMART apps which is annoying.

As a whole, I liked the TV as I was really tight on my budget around 00 as I got a good deal from Dell with 0 gift card.As I care more about the picture quality with a competitive price, i am totally satisfied.

A TV with a couple of kinks, August 10, 2014
Just bought this two weeks ago and so far overall I’ve been a little disappointed with the overall experience, the video quality is great, and the sound works, but the biggest setback so far has been the menu delay and overall slowness of the Smart Apps. The selection of Apps is great and has Amazon Prime, unfortunately when watching an HD movie it needs to buffer, and alot. We have a 1 Gigabit connection here in Austin, TX and streaming amazing on all of our devices, it’s just the TV that has issues pulling the movie, the worst part is that even thought the movie is HD, the streaming is so slow it plays back in regular quality, destroying the whole HD experience.

To fix this issue we bought a Apple TV. With the Apple TV the Samsung can just act as a TV display and you don’t get to experience the slowness. So far we’ve watched a couple of HD movies without any problems and now it connects to the rest of my Apple devices too. I’m sure the same can be achieved with a Roku, Fire Tv, or whatever streaming device you can get. But you’ll most likely need one to enjoy the TV.

    Pros
    Great picture quality
Apple, Android, and Tablet compatible (Mirroring)
    Decent Sound quality

    Cons
Smart Apps are pretty freaking slow
    Haven’t succeeded streaming HD movies
    Web Browser could be better
